Goal - the word immediately
reminds us the football game. Assume a football game without
goal posts at either ends. Do the players be motivated? Will
the game be interesting? Like wise can you imagine boarding a
train and trying to buy a ticket without knowing where to go?
So life without goal is meaningless. Without goals individuals
just wander through life. They stumble along never knowing
where they are going. So they never get anywhere. Goals are
essential to success as air in life.
The desire/needs in one’s life
motivate to setup a goal and by achieving it the individual
leads a happy and successful life. For instance, Hunger
is inferred as a Motive, getting and eating food is a
Goal. The important thing about goal is not where you
were or where you are, but where you want to get. An
individual can have a goal or number of goals in each stages
of life.
Goal can be defined as ‘an
intended outcome that requires action that satisfies
individual needs’. Also can be a goal as “a dream with a
deadline”. In other words, you define your dreams, and then
come up with a time estimate of how long it will take for you
to get there. The goal must be generated from individual’s own
mind based on their needs, not by force of others.

Yourself to Reach Your Goals
I
– Identify clearly
what you want. “If you don’t know where it is you’re going,
you’ll never get there.” People often don’t achieve goals
because they don’t know what they want. One of the best ways
to clearly identify what you want is to write it down. By the
very act of writing down your goals you increase your chances
of success.
N
– Nuture your desires.
Use your emotions to align yourself with your goals.
You can use various techniques
to help you capture the energy of your emotions to propel you
toward your goals.
One technique is visualization.
Spend a few minutes every day sitting in a quite environment
where you can picture your goal. Experience the feeling of
having reached your goal
S
– Support yourself.
Ask anyone who has achieved anything and they will tell you
they had help along the way. What’s the first thing award
winners do at award shows? They pull out their thank you list
of people who helped them achieve their goal.
Seek friends, family,
professionals, books, and groups; whatever it is that can help
you We all need help and that help is always available if we
allow our selves to receive it.
P
– Plan. This is where
you work on the “how”. Things like scheduling, what tools
we’ll use, how often we’ll workout, deadline for your goal,
etc.
Process goals are very important
in the planning stage. That is the purpose of the goal isn’t
dependent on the outcome but rather the focus is on the
“doing”.
I
– Initiate action..
The next step is to take a step each day towards your goal. As
the ancient Chinese proverb says, “A journey of a thousand
miles begins with a single step.”
Do not judge your actions; there are no big or small
steps. Only steps. What might seem like a “small” step now
could turn out to be huge later on.
R
– Release your goal.
Set your goal but do not hang onto to it too tightly. If we
get too caught up on the goal it can become an anchor.
The pressure we put on ourselves
to do something overwhelms us and undermines our success. You
need just the right amount of pressure to move you out of you
comfort zone but not enough to break you.
E
– Evaluate/evolve/enjoy.
Check back periodically to see how you’re doing.
Are you doing all the process
goals you need to? Are you still passionate about your goal?
You may decide your goal isn’t something you really wanted to
pursue and choose a more appropriate goal. Or you may achieve
it. Either way you’ll be happier for it.
Goal setting is an important
method of:
-
Deciding what is important for
you to achieve in your life;
-
Separating what is important
from what is irrelevant, or a distraction;
-
Building your self-confidence,
based on successful achievement of goals
Thus, achieving goals is not merely a matter of setting them.
It is also crucial to decide how important they are to you.
You must also determine what price you are willing to pay to
achieve them. The key is to make goals congruent with your
life; set goals in areas that you actually WANT to be
increasingly important to you.
