The
wonderful species created by God/nature is the
Human. Each individual
human being is
unique and different. The machine invented by the human which
nowadays dominating the world is the COMPUTER, which itself
has some limitations. The computer is hard wired and functions
are limited based on its configuration. But the human brains
are not like that, and their functions are unlimited. The
truth is that no humans are fully utilizing the brain. And
also the myth is the men with low IQ (Intelligent Quotient)
will not succeed in life. What is IQ? It is a measure of
relative intelligence determined by a standardized test. The
intelligence is nothing but ‘the ability to perform a task’.
Mostly IQ tests focus on logical and linguistic ability of an
individual and based on that rating is made. Those who are not
good in logical and linguistic are labeled as average or low
performer and their IQ rating is less. Then think about AR
Rahman and Sachin Tendulkar, are they low performers?
The fact is the humans ability is not restricted to only
the above two categories, there are totally 8 categories
considered as Multiple
Intelligence. They are
Spatial:
This
area deals with spatial judgment and the ability to visualize
with the mind's eye. Careers which suit those with this type
of intelligence include artists, designers and architects. A
spatial person is also good with puzzles.
Linguistic:
This area
has to do with words, spoken or written. People with high
verbal-linguistic intelligence display a facility with words
and languages. They are typically good at reading, writing,
telling stories and memorizing words along with dates. Those
with verbal-linguistic intelligence learn foreign languages
very easily as they have high verbal memory and recall, and an
ability to understand and manipulate syntax and structure.
Careers that suit those with this intelligence include
writers, lawyers, policemen, philosophers, journalists,
politicians, poets, and teachers.
Logical –Mathematical:
This area has to do with logic, abstractions, reasoning, and
numbers. It correlates strongly with traditional concepts of
"intelligence" or IQ. Careers which suit those with this
intelligence include scientists, physicists, mathematicians,
logicians, engineers, doctors, economists and philosophers.
Bodily-kinesthetic: The core elements of the
bodily-kinesthetic intelligence are control of one's bodily
motions and capacity to handle objects skillfully. In theory,
people who have bodily-kinesthetic intelligence should learn
better by involving muscular movement (e.g. getting up and
moving around into the learning experience), and are generally
good at physical activities such as sports or dance. Careers
that suit those with this intelligence include: athletes,
dancers, musicians, actors, surgeons, doctors, builders,
police officers,
and soldiers.
Musical:
This area has to do with sensitivity to sounds, rhythms,
tones, and music. People with a high musical intelligence
normally have good pitch and may even have absolute pitch and
are able to sing, play musical instruments, and compose music
.Careers that suit those with this intelligence include
instrumentalists, singers, disc-jockeys, orators, writers and
composers.
Interpersonal:
This
area has to do with interaction with others. In theory, people
who have a high interpersonal intelligence tend to be
extroverts characterized by their sensitivity to others'
moods, feelings, temperaments and motivations, and their
ability to cooperate in order to work as part of a group. They
communicate effectively and empathize easily with others, and
may be either leaders or followers. Careers that suit those
with this intelligence include
sales,
politicians,
managers,
teachers, and
social workers.
Intrapersonal:
This area has to do with
introspective and
self-reflective capacities. People with intrapersonal
intelligence are intuitive and typically introverted. They are
skillful at deciphering their own feelings and motivations.
This refers to having a deep understanding of the self; what
are your strengths/ weaknesses, what makes you unique, can you
predict your own reactions/ emotions. Careers which suit those
with this intelligence include philosophers, psychologists,
theologians, lawyers, and writers.
Naturalistic:
This
area has to do with nature, nurturing and relating information
to one’s natural surroundings. Careers which suit those with
this intelligence include naturalists, farmers, and gardeners.
The individual person may be very good in one or more
categories. Not only that, apart from IQ there another entity
which is named as EI (Emotional Intelligence) or Emotional
literacy. Emotional intelligence is the innate potential to
feel, use, communicate, recognize, remember, describe,
identify, learn from, manage, understand and explain emotions.
This also determines the individual’s success both in
profession and personal endeavors.
There are 8 stages in achieving Emotional literacy. They
are
Numbness – no conscious awareness of emotions.
Physical Sensation
–
Conscious awareness, but no understanding about emotions
Chaotic Experience
–
Awareness of different feelings and the beginning of
understanding through naming them.
Verbal Line
–
The learning of language to help awareness and thinking about
feelings.
Differentiation
– Able to tell the difference between and name the different
sorts of feeling, but still can’t express accurately.
Causality
– Can understand reasons and implicating for feelings and
can describe intensities and variation.
Empathy
– Can recognize and acknowledge feelings in others by using
the intuition.
Interactivity
– Can interrelate with sensitivity and can express feelings
effectively and appropriately.
Believe there is no discrimination in nature’s creation.
All the humans are born to win and not to lose. Every
one’s desire is success in life. But success is not common for
all and it
will be miserable when one’s success compared with others,
because as said before each individual human being is unique.
Find out your own interest and ability among the 8 categories
and sharpen your skills on that, travel in that path
consistently and also develop the emotional literacy which
makes a whole man. Here the parents and teachers plays a vital
role, they have to believe that their children and students
are all born in this world
with lot of qualities. The only thing they have to do is to
observe them carefully, pickup
their talents and be the catalyst for their achievements.
“Dear
Parents and Teachers don’t influence them to do what you want;
because it may not be their choice or they may be meant for
something else.
"Don’t try to
train Tortoise to run and Hare to swim”.
